Brit Awards 2019
Client: Brit Awards
Agency: Hello Charlie
This was my second year working on the Brit Awards with Hello Charlie. I was responsible for working on the broadcast package, the stage video looks and the opening performance from 'The Greatest Showman' by Hugh Jackman.
The broadcast package was designed around the award (this year designed by David Adjaye) and the set (designed by Misty Buckley). A highly textural look, it combined polished and rusted metals, foxed glass and geometric structures which led to an industrial yet sophisticated feel. As well as helping to develop the visual style of the show, I worked on the texturing of the CG award and all the cutaway scenes for the nominations with a new environment set on foxed mirrors.
For the stage designs I elaborated on the visual language of the broadcast package and created looping, abstract textural environments. These were huge 7k renders but looked fantastic on stage. There was also a secondary screen that came in for changovers that was projected onto, which had chainmail hanging across it which needed to be factored in with regards to contrast and detail.
On the The Greatest Showman performance I led the compositing of all the elements. I worked closely alongside the editor (Alex Chew) to formulate the workflow, which due to the complex nature of the choreography from the green screen shoot was very challenging. Together we worked on the arrangements of the shot. I also worked on applying digital makeup to all the dancers, I developed the techniques for the Busby Berkeley 'ripples', as well as building a huge CG staircase for dancers for the big finale.
