Film & TV user interface design

Between 2002 and 2005 I worked for Compuhire, a prop house that specialises in hiring computers and technical equipment to Films and TV Productions, and creating digital content to go on the screens. While there I worked on hundreds of TV shows and features. I became specialised at creating 'fantasy user interfaces' in what is a fairly niche industry. Despite a few art directors insisting on the very clichéd 'big red flashing letters' approach, I also worked with some very talented and creative people and produced designs that looked really good on film. As well as creating content for all kinds of screens and digital devices, I also went out on set to work with productions directly, setting up equipment and operating it in shot.

A list of some of the productions I worked on:

Closer, Love Actually, Dr Who, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, 3 Blind Mice, Enduring Love, The Grid, LD 50, Red Light Runners, New Tricks, Chromophobia, 20 Things to do before you're 30, The Bill, Always and Everyone, Dalziel and Pascoe, Family Affairs, BT advert, The Knock, Tough Love, 11’oclock Show, City Central, Playing the Field, Glasgow Kiss, Hearts & Bones, Everybody’s Children, Hawkins, Harry Enfield, Russian Beauty, Born Romantic, As Time Goes By, Criminal Justice, Waking the Dead, Rhona, Urban Gothic, Where the Heart Is, Ruth Rendall, Monkey king, Inspector Morse, Coronation street, Big bad world, Badger, Shadows, Second sight, Hollyoaks, Walking with People, Silent Witness, Daylight Robbery, Late night shopping, Big Smoke, Trial and Retribution, Without Motive, Hope and Glory, Fat Friends, Cold Feet, Small Potatoes, Russian Bride, Londons Burning, Cyclops, Long time dead, The search for John Gissing, Ghosthunters 2, The Hole, Headless, Queer as folk
